Extra-Terrestial Toddler is a Mork and Mindy episode from the ABC-TV animated The Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour series, also the 21st overall episode.

Synopsis[]

When a movie company comes to town, Mork mistakes a prop for an alien and beams it back to Ork. When he realizes the mistake he made, he, Mindy and Doing head to Ork to retrieve it.

Plot[]

Mindy returns home to find Mork in full cowboy dress practicing his rope work, accidentally lassoing her. He's heard about the movie that's being shot in Boulder and wants to get involved. Before he can go on however, Mindy stops him and tells him to get in his car with her and she'll explain more on the way. Fred it transpires has invested in the movie, which is why she can take him to visit the set, but, she tells him, it's not a Western it's a SciFi movie. On getting there, Mork goes into fanboy raptures, Mindy having to calm him down as they haven't even shot the first scene yet.

Two techs working behind the scenes, finish one of the props, a small robot like creature that moves on its own, and take it out before filming starts. Mork spots it and mistakes it for an Orkan 'Ginkel' that has gotten lost, and commiserating with it being so far from home, sends it back. When the techs return and find it gone, they think its been stolen, one of the techs having seen Mork 'playing' with it, accuses him of being the robber, sending him and Mindy into hiding.

Mork explains to Mindy what happened, and she insists he has to get the robot prop back as it could cost the production millions in a hold up. Mork tries to retrieve it but brings back two other creatures instead. When trying a third time he finds his finger has run out of power, and tells Mindy the only way they can get it back is to head to Ork themselves to retrieve it. Donning his space suit, he packs Mindy and Doing into his car, and after some pre-amble they take off for Ork.

Meanwhile on Ork the 'Ginkel' is making its way unnoticed down an Orkan street, until it is spotted by an Orkan Scientist and his assistant, Krok, like Mork mistaking it for a rare Orkan Ginkel. Feeling it will be worth a million Grindels to him in his experiments, the scientist sends Krok after it. Using his finger's powers Krok retrieves it and they head for their laboratory to start their experiments.

Arriving into Ork airspace Mindy is amazed by what is Ork's 'hometown' Santa Morkos, one of the biggest cities on the planet. After they land and Doing stops complaining (hating flying), Mork picks up on the robots signal with his finger, before he uses the same finger on Mindy, telling her they need to blend her in. Pointing it at her, he transforms her clothes into a purple and gold version of his own suit, declaring her his 'foxy mama' as a result.

Mindy's less impressed with the run down area of the city they end up in, declaring it creepy as Mork gets out to look around. Mork declares that it's nearby and recognizes the building as an Orkan Science Lab, and tells Mindy they have to get in there before it gets turned into a 'Frankenginkel'. Inside Mork and Mindy overhear the Orkan Scientist tell Krok that this experiment on the 'Grinkel' will make him rich and famous. Mindy saying they need to move fast to Mork. Trying to sneak out, Mork smacks into a tall piece of equipment which wobbles violently, Mindy urging him to catch it before it crashes and gives them away. Mork manages to grab hold of it, but even with his strength needs Doing to help him get it upright again. Unlocking the cage they have the robot in, Mork grabs it and he Mindy and Doing make a run for it. And are spotted doing so.

Giving chase, the scientist uses his finger to try and slow Mork down, Mork firing back and hitting Krok. Stopping and holding his ground, Mork takes a 'Mork Wayne' stance facing into a finger duel. Turning the Scientist upside down, Mork then blasts a hole in the door and the trio escape out heading for the Egg car. Only to discover that the Orkan Police have towed his car away. Because he's been driving with an Earth license plate. Given time, the chasing duo spot them again, and Mork tries to guide Mindy and Doing towards the police station. When the Scientist fires a shot at Mindy and Doing, Mork uses his finger to shift them out of the way, but in doing so his finger runs out of charge. Still running, Mindy asks how he can recharge it, and Mork says all he requires is food. Fortunate as ahead of them is McMorkles.

Ducking inside, intent on ordering a 'Big Ork' Mork heads to the counter and takes a seat, on his head, like everyone else in the restaurant. Urging him to hurry, Mindy feels the duo could be right be hind them. Upside down, ordering 2 shakes and Big Orks. As Doing joins Mork upside down beside Mork, Mindy spots their pursuers, the Scientist instructing Krok to look everywhere. Mork gestures at Mindy for her to sit...upside down. Feeling he has to be kidding, Mork insists she has to blend in, if the two creeps see her sitting that way the 'jig will be down'. With no other choice, Mindy gets onto the barstool and balances on her head. Noting the blood is rushing to her head. Mork replies now she knows how his bottom feels on Earth.

Their food served, Mork eats quickly with his finger, and tells Mindy the creeps are looking that way, she needs to slurp her shake with her finger. Rebalancing she sticks her hand in her drink and makes a loud slurping noise. It works and the duo bypass them, but Mork jumps down too quickly, his finger recharged and they're spotted again. Going on the run again, he finger duel starts up again, with the twin beams from Mork and the Scientist colliding and ending up in a metaphorical arm wrestle. Mork's freshly charged finger too much for the Scientist, his finger running out of power this time. Mork fires a couple of Big Orks on him to them, as he and Mindy take off again for the Police station with the robot and Doing. Flying out in the egg a short while later.

Back on Earth, the robot returned to the set, Mindy happily admits that Mork did it again, getting the Ginkel back to his real home. As the Director calls action directing a scene where an alien scientist is going to steal the little robot and the strapping hero will save it, Mork bemoans the fact that it will be the on screen actor who will rescue the little Ginkel and get all the credit. Mindy tells him not to worry. That if the actor needs any tips from a 'real' hero she knows where he can get them, and kisses Mork, pleasing him no end.
