Doing (pronounced Doyng) is Mork's pet Hibijonee (Hi-bij-oni), an Orkan dog in The Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz Hour. Following the success of Scooby-Doo, it became common for characters in Hanna-Barbera's animated shows (And other cartoons based on live action sitcoms) to be saddled with somewhat anthropomorphic animal sidekicks. Unlike other sidekicks like Mr Cool and PFC Squealy, Doing never talks and tended to act a little more like a regular animal, with occasional human reactions.
Character summary[]
Doing has an eye on his tail, a set of antennas on his head, and six legs with suction-cup feet. His three-segmented body can separate and act independently.
Each segment of his body and the top of his head resembles a Pom-Pom (Morkel & Hyde). Even when segmented if one part is grabbed or hurt, the head feels it. (Mork Man Vs Ork Man)
This is most likely because the term Hibijonee, is taken straight from the Mork & Mindy episode 'Hold That Mork' when Mork catches sight of a set of Pom-Poms carried into the Apartment by two of the Cheerleaders he's planning to work out with. Seeing them, he declares them to be 'Exploding Hibijonees!" grabs them from the two girls before Mindy can stop him, and tosses them out her front window, before sheepishly realizing they didn't explode, and telling Mindy they must've been tired, surmising it's their mating season.
Doing's tail is mutli-functional, he can see through it for great distances, and eat with it, and most often it extends to great lengths often usefully acting like a rope. He's exceptionally flexible and can squeeze into small spaces.
Surprisingly, nobody ever took issue with how obviously alien Doing looked. Most, like Hamilton DuPont seemed to regard him as just some weird-looking Earth dog.
If Doing is ever called a "Mutt", Mork will get indignant and defend Doing, citing him as being a fully accredited purebred Hibijonee.
Like Earth dogs, Doing is loyal to his owner Mork and his friends and shows dislike towards anyone who antagonizes them, and shows especial antagonism towards Hamilton and pleasure in his failures in attempting to come between Mork and Mindy, openly mocking him.
