Synopsis[]

The newlyweds head off on their honeymoon to Ork, where Mindy attracts a lot of attention. While Mork's plans to make the trip special for her go awry, gradually igniting his fears about letting her down in the marriage.

Plot[]

An hour after Mork & Mindy's (unseen) wedding reception, Cora & Fred are in the apartment helping Mindy with her luggage for her honeymoon trip with Mork to Ork. Cora is enthusing about the wedding earlier that day and what a beautiful bride Mindy made, but Fred is focused on the trip to Ork wishing they were going to The Poconos. Mindy emerges from her bedroom in her spacesuit, and Fred tries to get her to reconsider, but she tells him Ork is where Mork grew up and he just wants to share it with her. She also reminds him she's a journalist and this is an exhilarating opportunity of a lifetime...before confessing that she is scared to death.

Mork descends all enthusiasm and excitement and is determined to quell Fred's worries over Mindy's safety, and the two men play ping pong with Mindy drawing her back and forth between them in a debate over how safe she'll be. The debate is ended by the arrival of the newlyweds' Egg-shaped Spaceship, but it was the compact model instead of the luxury model Mork had requested. With Mork at the helm, he entertains Mindy with some inflight "safety" notices, and a game of iSpy where Mork fails to notice a coming meteor. Later, Mork wakes a sleeping Mindy to give her her first sight of Ork, which she finds beautiful, and soon they're landing at Frizbat's Squellman the Yellow Memorial Airport.

Arriving at the Hotel Mmm Pltzz *cheek pull* & Spa by an Egg-shaped Taxi, Mindy is amazed and enthused by the myriad species, and futuristic culture, of Ork, and, enthused, wants to do everything she can. But while they're standing talking about it in the foyer of the hotel, she starts to attract attention. A lot of it. With Orkans starting to take her photo. Mork explains that word of their marriage has unsurprisingly garnered attention on Ork, and many of them have never seen an Earthling before. Before she knows it she's surrounded by Orkan paparazzo and then gawking Orkans and others, and her enthusiasm for going out wains. Suddenly feeling very out of place, she asks if they can just go to their room, and Mork takes her to the check in desk where, after Mindy embarrassingly mistakes a penguin for the desk clerk they are informed by Orlando, the real clerk who finds Mork taking a wife to be a kind of aberration, that their room isn't ready yet. Mindy, less than impressed by Orlando in turn suggests to Mork that they use Orson's name to lean on the Clerk. But Mork maintains he's her husband, he's got clout and doesn't need Orson's weight. Leaving Mindy alone for a moment to show her that he can fix it.

As Mindy waits, looking around the foyer, she again starts to attract an unwanted crowd, who closing in on her uncomfortably, start to poke and prod her. Just as she starts to react, the crowd are parted by the arrival of Orkan Security Officials, but rather than dispersing the crowd, they abduct Mindy, carrying her off. Mork doesn't hear her cries for help and returns to find her gone. As he's calling the Orkan Police, on a phone droid, she's returned to him, and while she thinks she's been put through a Visa examination, they find out she has actually, and humiliatingly, been through a 'pet' show. And only took fourth place. To make matters worse, another alien tries to swap his female for Mindy with Mork. Mork starts to fret, apologizing profusely to her saying he wanted to make the honeymoon very very special for her. Mindy weary and discomfited by everything that's happened, tries to assure him its not his fault, but then almost sits on a weirdly shaped alien and Mork has to apologize to him. Praising her for hanging in there with him, Mork takes her up to their room.

However, once there, Mork makes a hash of carrying Mindy over the threshold and then they discover, despite Morks instructions, that their room has been set up completely wrong for humans, with the furnishings and furniture, bar the bed, in all the wrong places. Wallpaper on the floor, the lockers upside and affixed to the walls, tables and rugs likewise, with ceiling chairs above the bed. After a beat, Mork starts to spiral, falling apart along with his plans to impress her. Trying to calm him, Mindy assures him that all that really matters is that they are together and it's their honeymoon. Adding another Mindy addition to the dictionary, this time under 'compassionate', the two relax professing their love for each other and moving to kiss, only for the room doorbell to sound, the wrong way around, "Dong Ding?!". Thinking it's the rest of their luggage, Mindy wonders if you tip the bell hops on Ork, Mork informing her that their robots, and if you tipped them they'd flail around on the ground. But when he opens the door, two of Morks old school friends, PeeVee clones 6 & 7 barge in to welcome Mork back. Mindy at first pleased to meet them, until they start to make comments about her being his wife 'whatever that is', and though they think they're hilarious, are merely loud, obnoxious and terminally unfunny, to the point that Mindy isn't surprised that Mork was the only one who got into trouble for telling jokes (where making you laugh is the bit that gets you into trouble). Sitting on their faces, they stick there and refuse to take the multiple indirect and overt hints to get out.

After finally getting them out, Mork calms his irritated bride, who didn't take kindly to being referred to as his 'creature' by his friends, by reminding her that they are alone The flirtatious grinning newlyweds make for their bed, leaping on to it. Mork turning out the lights with talk of it being their wedding night, and not putting things off any longer. Only for him to stun Mindy with a ancient Orkan honeymoon ritual, involving a tribal dance with eggs on sticks and a giant chicken head, before climbing back on to the bed, and saying good night. Turning the lights back on, a thoroughly shaken Mindy slowly gets up and retrieves a "Manual on Sex and Marriage" that Fred had given her, which she had been so sure Mork wouldn't need she'd called her father crazy. Handing it to the still chicken headed Mork she asks him to read it. Mork flicks through it casually, tells her he understands it, excuses himself to go to the bathroom, runs for it and tries to lock himself in, only to discover they haven't put locks on the doors either. Mindy refusing let him stay in there, warns him to come out, or she's coming in, finally bursting in only to discover he's escaped out the bathroom window, leaving the chicken head behind.

Wishing desperately they had gone to Niagara Falls, Mindy gives chase and under the three moons of Ork eventually finds Mork hiding in a Rose Garden outside the hotel. After coaxing him out to sit and talk with her, Mindy tells him that she realizes for the first time how he must feel on Earth, and doesn't know how he copes. He has her to take care of him, he says. Touched she tells him how beautiful she thinks Ork is, and how romantic the three moons are. Commenting on how similar the rose garden is to one on Earth, it transpires he has helped to create it, sending the flowers from Earth to Ork over the previous 3 years. Wanting to share some of Earth's beauty with his home world. Surprised and touched, Mindy is further moved when he tells her none of it is as beautiful as she is. Asking him to tell her what's really bothering him, she discovers that, after everything that's gone wrong Mork is scared of being married, letting her down and her being ashamed of him. She tells him everyone is afraid of getting married, that it's a natural emotion. That one day they may have kids, and that terrifies her, but she knows he'll be there for her. That the wonderful thing about marriage is you have a friend who loves you and a a partner who sees you through the rough times. He asks if one partner isn't ashamed of the other friend and partner, and Mindy assures him that that can never be the case as long as two people love each other.

Kissing her hand Mork picks a rose and gives it to Mindy, setting off an alarm in the process, making him grab her hand telling her to run, that the Rose Garden is effectively a national monument, and picking the rose a crime. Hastily exiting, they run rapidly back to to their bedroom. Mork's nerves rising again, Mindy, puts his qualms about his somehow failing her further at ease, by reiterating that until that day she never really appreciated what it was like to be a stranger on a strange planet, but as bizarre and scary as it's been for her, at least she's been there with him. Emboldened by that, Mork agrees they are in it together, only for the couple to be interrupted again by PeeVee Clones 1&2 emerging from where they were hiding under the bed. Unsurprisingly they do exactly as their brothers do, starting to crack unfunny jokes, which Mindy pre-empts knowing the punchlines by now. Only for Mork to surprise her by laughing along with the clones, though it transpires to be a ploy as he dispatches them out the door by distracting them with the marriage manual.

With the marriage manual gone, alone in the room again, just the two of them, Mork returns to her to take her hand, wanting her to know that he really does understand "Earth customs", in regards to the night ahead, drawing a relieved 'Really?' from her. Confirming it, he underlines it by telling her he really does cares. Before playfully making the kinky suggestion that she wears the chicken head that night.

The episode ends with the loved up, souvenir strewn couple returning home at the end of their (25 Orkan day) honeymoon, with Mindy at the helm of the Egg. Flirting with each other, Mindy tells Mork they'll need send Orson a thank you note as she had a great time, before giggling and fighting him off as he dives to nibble on her ear. Asking him if he knows what her favorite part was, chuckling wickedly Morks suggests 'the pillow fight' and though she smirks in recollection and considers it, she says no. Her favorite part, she says, was waking up next to him in the mornings and seeing him laying there next to her, and knowing that for the rest of her life his face will be the first one she wakes up to every morning. Touched, Mork replies ditto for him, kissing her lightly before telling her he has one thing to say to her...then yells 'Meteor!' Mindy dragging the Egg sideways rapidly as one shoots across their path.

Trivia[]

Orkan 'Facts'[]

General[]

  • Mork doesn't seem to rate the new hotels 'on the strip' on Ork very highly when using the Yinglish/Yiddish word Kenahora, meant to keep the evil eye away.
  • Mork assigns yet another Dictionary Definition to Mindy 'Compassionate, See You' as he has done in other episodes (Mork the Prankster, Mork, the Monkey's Uncle)
  • The PeeVee Clones name may be a musical in-joke based around the popular Peavey Musician amp of the 1970s which was widely cloned.
  • This episode ends on a cliffhanger ("To Be Continued") despite the next episode not resolving anything from the previous.

Pop Culture[]

  • Mindy quotes Star Trek's 'To boldly go where no man has gone..." line in preparation for her trip to Ork. William Shatner's Kirk would later cameo this Season.
  • Mork sings an 'intro' for himself of Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, which became recognizable as one of the main themes used in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968.

  • Mork corrects Mindy's allusion that she's the first woman in space referring to 'a Russian lady', who is of course the legendary Cosmonaut and icon Col. Valentina Tereshkova who went into space in 1963.

  • In his 'in-flight' announcement to Mindy en route to Ork, Mork references several movies:
  • Mork tells Mindy that she's going to have to expect a little giggling and gawking as Orkans have never seen an Earthling before, comparing it to an Alexander Haig press conference. Haig being Secretary of State at the time and infamous for his verbose, obscure, pompous 'Haigspeak' which brought him ridicule.
  • Mork comments that he thinks Orlando looks a lot like Elton John.
  • The gawping of the crowd leaves Mindy commenting that she feels like The Elephant Man. referring to Joseph Merrick the Victorian Man famously displayed in a Freak Show due to his deformities who later became a spokesperson and celebrity, the movie of whose life story had just come out in 1980.
