The Exidor Affair was the 14th episode of season 2 of Mork and Mindy, and also the 38th overall episode from the series. Co-written by Dale McRaven and Bruce Johnson, the episode, which was directed by Howard Storm, first aired on December 2, 1979.
Mindy is thoroughly annoyed when Exidor invites himself and his fiancée to dinner, but she's flabbergasted when a real woman arrives as Exidor's date.
"The Exidor Affair" finds Exidor (Robert Donner) inviting himself to dinner at Mindy's, promising to bring his girlfriend Ambrosia Malspar (Georgia Engel). Imagine the shock when Ambrosia turns out to be a real, flesh and blood woman, who appears to be calm and normal, but chooses to leave Exidor when he can't rid them of his imaginary friend Pepe. Ambrosia reveals that the actual reason she left Exidor is that he's never told her he loved her.
Exidor reveals that he was raised in an orphanage, knowing all along that he's 'a little eccentric,' but actually manages to propose to Ambrosia in Mindy's living room. Georgia Engel, beloved spouse of Ted Knight on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, gets a rousing audience reception, the perfect casting choice opposite Exidor, who earlier in the season had been living in the apartment of a never seen girlfriend.
- Clearly this was intended to be immediately followed by Exidor's Wedding, but ABC stuck "The Mork Syndrome" between them.
- This is the first appearance of Ambrosia.
